So again things are not discounted in Montreal. Actually since we've been visiting the city since 2002 lots has happened. For example most of the buildings that were occupied by squatters have either been torn down or rehabbed into condos. Around the Place de Arts which is the heart of the Jazz Fest has undergone a total rehab, areas that were once dusty parking lots where a few of the free outdoor concerts were held in years past are now urban parks and fountains. There is some kind of 4 year plan to redevelop the whole festival area on St. Catherine. It was neat to witness the change.
This year the weather did not cooperate at all. If you are lucky to live in the North East these days you know all to well the horrible weather we've been enduring for the last several months. Canada is no different. We had lots of rain, drizzle, threatening to rain, gray humid and sometimes cold. This made for intermittent concert attendance. One night was blown because of downpours. There were still good things to see and the sights were all new to the kids. On the one sunny day we decided to hike, well mommy hiked and daddy pushed a 80lb stroller up Mont Royal. We winded our way up to a pretty park at the top with a little lake and a pavilion that sold food. There were great kiddy parks up there, Orli wanted to go on everything and Zev just wanted to swing. We then departed this oasis of a park and tried to make our way down, only we got stuck in a vicious loop that was keeping us locked at the top of this mountain in the city. So Daddy saw some folks coming from a side path and we inquired if it went anywhere back down. They said yes but there were stairs because it was so steep. This scared the (insert word here) out of mommy who protested loudly that we should find some other way down. Daddy won out and down the path we all went stroller and all.
